Oxygen Reduction on Passive Steel and Cr Rich Alloys for Concrete Reinforcement
نویسنده
چکیده
Mature passive films (age > 10 s) were grown in aerated saturated calcium hydroxide solution, at the open circuit, on plain steel and alloys with 9% and 22% Cr, as well as austenitic stainless steels. The materials were commercially produced concrete reinforcing steels. Differences in the polarization of the oxygen reduction reaction were evidenced. Oxygen reduction rates at moderate cathodic polarization were found to approximate ideal Tafel behavior, to be greatest for plain steel and to decrease with increasing Cr content. Mott-Schottky analysis indicated n-type semiconductor behavior in all cases, with higher apparent donor density for the plain steel and little differentiation between the other materials.

Protection of Reinforced Concrete Structures of Waste Water Treatment Reservoirs with Stainless Steel Coating Using Arc Thermal Spraying Technique in Acidified Water
Waste water treatment reservoirs are contaminated with many hazardous chemicals and acids. Reservoirs typically comprise concrete and reinforcement steel bars, and the main elements responsible for their deterioration are hazardous chemicals, acids, and ozone. Currently, a variety of techniques are being used to protect reservoirs from exposure to these elements. The most widely used techniques...

The electrochemical behaviour for passivation of new alloy corrosion-resistant steel Cr10Mo1 immersed in alkaline solutions with different pH values (13.3, 12.0, 10.5, and 9.0) and chloride contents (0.2 M and 1.0 M), was investigated by various electrochemical techniques: linear polarization resistance, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and capacitance measurements. The chemical compositi...
متن کاملTHESIS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY Chloride Induced Corrosion of Reinforcement Steel in Concrete Threshold Values and Ion Distributions at the Concrete-Steel Interface
The chloride threshold value (Cth), or critical chloride content, is defined as the chloride concentration at the depth of the reinforcement, which initiates the depassivation of steel in concrete. However, very limited information is available regarding the chloride distributions at the interface with the steel. The main objective of this work is to improve the knowledge and understanding abou...

In this work, changes undergone at the passive layer of a new type of corrugated austenitic stainless steel (low Ni, high Mn 204Cu type) when exposed to solutions simulating that contained in the pores of concrete have been studied. Changes in the nature of the passive layer have been characterized by X-ray photoelectronic spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Par...
